What is the ruling on seeing one's fiancée accompanied by her older brother before going to her home, and what is required of the suitor towards his fiancée and her dowry, and how can one eliminate the suspicion of imitating Christians in wearing the engagement ring?

If the intention is for a man to see a woman for the purpose of engagement, this is permissible. It is not a condition that she be in her home, and no part of the dowry is obligatory at this stage. The suitor remains a stranger to his fiancée until the marriage contract is solemnized. Caution should be exercised to avoid impermissible acts (violations of Sharia) during the wedding, and one should not appease people by compromising on their bad customs. A Muslim should bear in mind the hadith: "Whoever seeks Allah's pleasure, even if it displeases people, Allah will suffice him against the burden of people. And whoever seeks people's pleasure, even if it displeases Allah, Allah will entrust him to people." As for the engagement ring (dublah) and wearing it, please refer to Fatwa no. 87515.
