The answer

The elderly should not be placed in nursing homes except out of necessity, due to the frustration this causes them psychologically. Therefore, relatives of the elderly person must be sought to care for them. If there are no relatives or volunteers to care for them, and there is a fear of them being neglected, then it is preferable for them to move to a nursing home to ensure their safety, care, and provision of their needs. The one who does so will be among the righteous who are rewarded, for Allah Almighty says: "And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind." (Al-Ma'idah: 32).
