It is not permissible to place one's parents in a nursing home unless it is with their consent, permission, and desire, provided that this permission is not due to their being compelled by the son's ill-treatment. It is permissible in cases of necessity, such as travel, while ensuring the quality of care in the home. Islam has عظّم [glorified/magnified] the rights of parents, associating them with the right of Allah, and commanded kindness towards them and humility before them. It forbade harming them, even with a word like "uff" (a word of annoyance), even if they are disbelievers and command polytheism; in such a case, they are not to be obeyed in sin but are to be treated with kindness. Filial piety is among the best deeds, and disobeying them has been associated with polytheism as one of the greatest major sins.
