What is the ruling on eating weevils found in dates, and are they pure or impure?

Worms are creatures that do not possess flowing blood, and they are pure while alive. However, upon their death, the majority of scholars hold them to be pure, while the Shafi‘is deem them impure.

As for eating date worms and the like, the Hanafis are of the opinion that it is not permissible to eat cheese, vinegar, or fruits with their worms if the spirit has been breathed into them.

The Malikis, however, permit eating worms that originate within food, whether they are few or many, whether they died within it or not, and whether they are distinguishable or not.

The Shafi‘is and Hanbalis permit eating worms that originate in food, such as in vinegar and fruits, under certain conditions, such such as being eaten along with it. It is permissible to eat foods containing worms and maggots, such as fruits, grains, and vinegar, if one is not disgusted by them. It is also permissible to eat honey with its comb, even if it contains bee larvae.
