My husband gave me 70,0 Riyals. Is Zakat due on it?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The money given by the husband is not subject to zakat unless a full year has passed while it is in the wife's possession, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever acquires wealth, no zakat is due on it until a full year has passed over it."

If a full Hijri year passes over the money while it is with her, then zakat becomes obligatory on it. One-quarter of a tenth (2.5%) should be paid from it, which amounts to 1750 Riyals for a sum of 70,0 Riyals.
