Is it considered disobedience for children to avoid their mother—in order to avoid problems she instigates—or not?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The status of parents is great. Allah has associated His right with theirs and specifically enjoined kindness to the mother, emphasizing greater dutifulness towards her. Therefore, whatever a child can do to show dutifulness to them, let him do so. There is no blame upon children for living separately from their mother if it does not cause her harm. They must maintain ties with her through visits, calls, and checking on her well-being. Their mere separation from her is not an act of disobedience if she harms or mistreats them. They must, however, be patient, advise her, and supplicate for her.
