Is it right to feel a pang of conscience for spending money on permissible things, when there are needy people, and to avoid envy by not buying?

It is permissible for you to spend from your wealth on lawful things, for Allah, the Almighty, says: "Say, 'Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has produced for His servants and the good things, pure and lawful, of sustenance?'" However, giving charity and empathizing with the poor and needy have a greater reward, for Allah, the Almighty, says: "Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over?" One must balance enjoying permissible things without extravagance, and spending in the way of Allah. One should not envy others for their spending on permissible things; rather, one should feel admiration for spending wealth to please Allah. Accustom yourself to doing good deeds by persevering in them, even if they are few.
