The answer

Abu Lubabah was an eminent Companion, whose name was Bashir ibn Abd al-Mundhir. He was one of the chiefs of Banu Amr ibn Awf al-Ansari. Musa ibn Uqbah mentioned him among the participants of Badr. He was one of the chieftains on the night of Al-Aqabah, and he carried the banner of Banu Amr on the day of the Conquest [of Mecca]. He admitted his sin when he gestured to the Jews that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would deal with them. He repented sincerely, tying himself to a pillar in the Prophet's Mosque until Allah accepted his repentance and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, untied him with his own hand. This pillar is still known by his name. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, appointed him over Medina during the Battle of Badr, and he is counted among the participants of Badr. He passed away after the killing of Uthman and at the beginning of Ali's caliphate, may Allah be pleased with them both.
