What should the wife do if her family and her husband disagree, and the husband refuses reconciliation unless the wife's family initiates it?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Family members should not be involved in marital disputes unless the disagreement has become severe, all means of resolution have been exhausted, and there is fear of schism, as Allah Almighty says: "And if you fear dissension between the two, send an arbitrator from his people and an arbitrator from her people. If they both desire reconciliation, Allah will cause agreement between them. Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Acquainted." Disputes should be handled with wisdom, leaving no room for Satan to cause separation between the spouses. There should be mutual forgiveness and an effort to please the other party's family. It is not permissible for a husband to refuse procreation without his wife's permission and consent. It is advisable to preserve the marriage if the husband is good in his treatment, to overcome problems by overlooking mistakes and forgiving, and to know and fulfill one's rights. If there is a need to involve family members, each party should strive to convince their own family to initiate reconciliation.
