Is it sufficient to be content with reading interpretations of the Holy Quran and understanding its meanings without memorizing the surahs, and the same for other books, due to the difficulty of memorization?

One should combine memorizing the Quran with reading exegeses (tafsir) and books, dedicating time to each. It is preferable to focus on memorizing as much of the Quran as possible with continuous revision to prevent forgetting, and to engage in understanding its meanings. Memorization is aided by piety towards Allah, sincerity, and gradual progression. Memorization is one of the greatest means of excelling in knowledge, for it is what remains in the hearts, not in books. A student of knowledge needs a shaykh to clarify what is difficult for them.
