If a man possessed by jinn divorces his wife, is the divorce valid?

If a person afflicted by jinn (massus) pronounces a divorce while fully conscious, aware, exercising free will, and not overpowered, then his divorce is valid. However, if he is overpowered, unaware, or not exercising free will, his divorce is not valid, due to the absence of the conditions of sanity and free will. The divorce of an insane person or one with a mental defect is not valid, and if the insanity is intermittent, the ruling on his divorce depends on his state at the time of the divorce. The jurists have analogized to the insane person, the sleeper, the unconscious, and the bewildered, based on the hadith: "The pen has been lifted from three," and the hadith: "There is no divorce and no manumission in ighlaq (compulsion/unconsciousness)."
