What is the ruling on calling Sheikh Tantawy "Mr. Qushta" and defending his honor?

Indeed, defending the honor of Muslims is مشروع (sanctioned) and originally it is forbidden to undermine them. Whoever defends the honor of his brother, Allah will shield his face from the Fire on the Day of Judgment. And whoever abandons a Muslim in a situation where his sanctity is violated and his honor is diminished, Allah will abandon him in a situation where he desires His help. Allah has forbidden backbiting, likening the backbiter to one who eats the flesh of his dead brother. And a Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand other Muslims are safe. The tongue is what casts people into the Hellfire on their faces. The way to defend someone's honor is by refuting the disparagement directed at him. If he is in the right, he is defended by explaining the validity of his words with evidence, or by refuting what was directed at him. If he is in the wrong but does not persist in falsehood, excuses are sought for him as much as possible. However, defending someone without evidence should be abandoned, and focus should be on religious duties. If a scholarly person is slandered and the refutation is unknown, the matter should be entrusted to people of knowledge, and the speaker should be advised accordingly.
