What is the ruling on therapeutic music?

The basic ruling on musical instruments is prohibition, with the exception of the tambourine (daf). The Shafi'is also made an exception for listening to musical instruments for therapeutic purposes, if this is definitively determined by the report of two upright physicians, similar to treating with an impure substance if healing is definitively found therein.
