What is the legitimate Islamic position regarding the recitation of the Qur’an by a singer known for crooning words of love and appearing in scandalous poses? Is it permissible to attack him, or would that be considered backbiting? And is it permissible to forbid a colleague from listening to it?

Beautifying one's voice when reciting the Qur’an is commendable, but reciting the Qur’an with musical tunes is not permissible. Singing with musical instruments is forbidden, and the prohibition is further emphasized if the lyrics involve themes of passionate love. One must denounce evil according to their ability. The appearance of a singer in music videos is an open declaration of فسق (moral corruption), and therefore, mentioning what such a person does is not considered backbiting (غيبة). Thus, you must denounce this singer and change his reprehensible acts as much as you can. Mentioning his reprehensible acts is not backbiting as long as he is openly declaring them. A singer's recitation of the Qur’an is good if it is not done with musical tunes, and there is no need to request its removal if it is permissible.
