Is it permissible for a woman to offer a sheep or a ewe as a sacrifice on her own behalf?

It is permissible for a woman to sacrifice a male or female sheep (of the ovine species), but it is better for both men and women to sacrifice a male ram. This is because the general rule in Islamic discourse is that rulings apply to both men and women unless there is specific evidence to differentiate them. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, women are the counterparts of men." And due to the statement of Malik: "Male sheep (rams) are better for sacrifices than female sheep, and female sheep are better than male goats, and male goats are better than female goats."
