What should I do about my aversion to my wife because of her body shape, and my feeling that I made a mistake in choosing her, along with my concern for the future of my daughters and the future of all of us?
Affection between spouses requires patience and overlooking faults, and focusing on the good aspects. Not all homes are built on love, but rather on living together with kindness, as Allah Almighty said: "...and live with them in kindness. For if you dislike them - perhaps you dislike a thing and Allah makes therein much good." And the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "No believing man should hate a believing woman; if he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another." Lowering the gaze is important for the husband's contentment with his wife, whereas letting it wander into forbidden things makes him disinclined towards her. The wife has a right to sexual intercourse according to the husband's capacity and her need. It is permissible for a man to marry a second, third, and fourth time, provided there is justice between the wives. If it becomes impossible to live with the wife with kindness, divorce is permissible, but divorce should not be resorted to except after all means of reconciliation have failed, especially when there are children.
