It is permissible for a woman to wear black in her hijab and other colors, provided that the color is not a source of temptation (fitna). There is no text in the Qur’an or Sunnah that specifies the color of the jilbab. Rather, the command is to cover and not display adornment, and that the jilbab should be loose, covering the entire body, not transparent, not body-hugging, and not resembling the clothing of disbelieving women. The action of the female Companions when the verse "they should draw over themselves some of their outer garments (jilbabs)" was revealed, by wearing black cloaks (as if there were crows on their heads), indicates the permissibility of the color black and the Prophet's approval of it. This does not mean that other modest, non-tempting colors are impermissible.
