The answer

If your gold ownership reaches 85 grams and a full year (hawl) has passed on it, zakat becomes obligatory at a rate of 2.5%. It can be paid either from the gold itself, its monetary value, or from other funds. If you do not have money, you are required to pay it from the gold or by selling a portion of it. It is permissible for someone to donate and pay the zakat on your behalf with your permission.
