What is the ruling on slaughtering the sacrificial animal after the Eid prayer but before the khutbah ends?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The time for sacrificing the Udhiyah (sacrificial animal) begins immediately after the Eid prayer is concluded, even if it is before or during the sermon. However, it is preferable to wait for both sermons to finish. As for those not required to perform the Eid prayer, its time begins after the duration of the Eid prayer has passed, once the sun has risen to the height of a spear. Prophetic narrations emphasize that the sacrifice should be made after the prayer, such as his (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: "Whoever prays our prayer and performs our sacrifice has indeed performed the sacrifice correctly. And whoever sacrifices before the prayer, it is a sacrifice [made] before the prayer and is not a valid sacrifice for him."
