Does divorce take effect with the words "I divorced on such-and-such a day" with the intention of suspending a previous divorce, and not an actual divorce?

If the anger is so severe as to cause loss of consciousness, then divorce does not occur. However, if the person is aware of what he is saying, the ruling depends on his intention:

- If he intended a promise of divorce but did not carry it out, then nothing is binding on him.

- If he intended to make divorce contingent on not speaking to a specific woman and he did speak to her, then divorce occurs according to the majority of scholars. However, Ibn Taymiyyah holds that an expiation for breaking an oath is required if the intention was merely a threat.

- A mere suspension of divorce without the occurrence of the condition upon which it was suspended does not entail anything.

- Informing a friend about a previously suspended divorce that has not actually occurred does not result in divorce.
