Is it permissible to address foul-mouthed relatives with the words of Allah Almighty: "Peace be upon you; we seek not the ignorant," to ward off their harm, and can their visits be reduced to once a week despite the mother's frequent requests for visits and her anger upon refusal?

Enjoining good and forbidding evil includes patience in the face of harm, gentleness and forbearance, and understanding what is being enjoined and forbidden. It is not wise to use the verse: "Peace be upon you; we seek not the ignorant" (28:55) when addressing relatives, because its intent is to counter ignorance with forbearance, and evil with good. Obeying one's mother in visiting relatives is obligatory, while gently and wisely denouncing evil without argumentation or concern for mockery.
