Your friend also did wrong by conveying these words to you, for it is a form of backbiting (namīmah). The definition of backbiting is revealing what is disliked to be revealed, whether it is a statement or an action, a fault or not. It would have been better for the conveyor of the message to advise the two men and remind them that mentioning people in their absence is either backbiting or slander. We advise striving to reconcile among Muslims, for Satan seeks to divide them, and reconciliation is better. As for not going to the mosque on Friday, if what is meant is the Friday prayer, then it is not permissible to miss it without a legitimate excuse. If what is meant is evening programs, then one should not miss out on acquiring beneficial knowledge. The bad actions of individuals should not be a reason to turn away from religion. As for the phrase "this talk is for people of little resourcefulness," if it means that saying "Hasbiyallahu wa ni'mal wakeel" (Allah is sufficient for me, and He is the best Disposer of affairs) and the prayer of the oppressed are only needed by the weak, then this is dangerous. A Muslim is never independent of Allah's help, and independence from Allah is destruction and transgression for the servant. The phrase "Lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh" (There is no might nor power except with Allah) is a treasure from the treasures of Paradise, encompassing a disavowal of might and power and a turning to Allah.
