Is it permissible to perform Jumu'ah prayer at home?

It is not a condition for the validity of Jumu'ah (Friday prayer) that it be performed in a mosque. However, it is not permissible to perform it in homes or similar places, even in congregation, because among the conditions for the validity of Jumu'ah is that it should not be multiplied unless there is a necessity or need. Also, the worshippers must not be fewer than forty Muslim, sane, adult, free, resident men. Multiplying it in homes or elsewhere without these conditions invalidates it.
