The question

Is it permissible to pray Jumu'ah at home while listening to the sermon in Arabic, instead of going to the mosque where the sermon is delivered in foreign languages, based on the ijtihad of some Salafi youth and relying on what Sheikh Al-Albani mentioned in tape no. 213, minute 51?

The answer

Performing the Friday prayer (Jumu'ah) at home is not permissible for several reasons:

1. The fundamental principle is that Jumu'ah is only performed in a mosque where the call to prayer is raised, as Allah Almighty says: "O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah, then proceed to the remembrance of Allah."

2. Not understanding the sermon is not an excuse for missing Jumu'ah, as the sermon is valid even if its meaning is not understood.

3. Multiple Jumu'ah prayers in one town are not permissible unless there is a valid reason.

4. The Malikis stipulate for the validity of Jumu'ah that it be performed in a congregational mosque built in the customary manner for the people of the town.
