The question

Are the following hadiths authentic: "When you pray Fajr, say before speaking to anyone, 'O Allah, protect me from the Fire' seven times, for if you die on that day, Allah will record for you protection from the Fire. And when you pray Maghrib, say before speaking to anyone, 'O Allah, indeed I ask You for Paradise, O Allah, protect me from the Fire' seven times, for if you die on that night, Allah Almighty will record for you protection from the Fire"? And "Whoever asks Allah for Paradise three times, Paradise says, 'O Allah, admit him to Paradise,' and whoever seeks protection from the Fire three times, the Fire says, 'O Allah, protect him from the Fire'"? And is it authentic to recite the dhikr "There is no god but Allah alone, without partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and praise. He gives life and causes death. In His hand is all good, and He is over all things competent" ten times, and "O Allah, protect me from the Fire" seven times, after the Fajr and Maghrib prayers?

The answer

The first hadith is weak due to an unknown narrator in its chain of transmission. The second supplication was narrated by Al-Tirmidhi and authenticated by Al-Albani. As for the saying "Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu..." (There is no god but Allah alone, He has no partners...), its virtue has been established as a general morning and evening remembrance. It has also been established that there is an encouragement to recite this remembrance ten times after the Fajr and Maghrib prayers before the worshiper changes their sitting posture. Ibn Al-Sunni, Al-Mundhiri, and Al-Haythami all mentioned this hadith in the chapter on remembrance after prayer.
