What is the ruling on placing books upon the Mushaf?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The scholars have unanimously agreed on the obligation to protect and respect the Mus'haf, and the prohibition of exposing it to disrespect. It is permissible to place one Mus'haf on top of another Mus'haf. However, placing a book or books other than the Mus'haf on top of it is forbidden, and its minimum status is disliked (makrooh), because part of respecting the Mus'haf is that it should always be elevated above all other books. If books are placed on the Mus'haf unintentionally or out of ignorance, it is excused. However, if it is done intentionally, it is not permissible, because it is a form of disrespect. Similarly, it is forbidden to place anything disrespectful on top of the Mus'haf or to place it there with the intention of protecting the item above it, due to the clear disrespect this entails for the Book of Allah.
