Is it permissible to pay a monthly sum to an orphan from the zakat on gold that has been held for a full year, annually?

There is a difference of opinion regarding ornamental gold, and the fatwa (definition) adopted by us is that there is no zakat (definition) on it. However, if it is intended for trade or savings, or if you believe in the obligation of zakat on jewelry, then the recipients of zakat on gold, or wealth in general, are the eight categories mentioned in Surah (definition) At-Tawbah (definition), verse 60: "Indeed, [ prescribed ] charitable offerings are only to be given to the poor and the needy, and to those who work on [ collecting ] them, and to those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and to [ free ] those in bondage, and to the debt-ridden, and for the cause of God, and to the wayfarer; [ this is ] an obligation from God. And God is all-knowing, all-wise."

If the orphan is poor and cannot meet his needs, it is permissible to give him zakat; in fact, he is more deserving than others. However, what you previously spent on the orphan does not count as zakat unless you intended it as zakat at the time of payment, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Deeds are only by intentions." It is permissible to pay zakat in advance according to the majority of scholars, but it is not permissible to pay it in installments after the completion of the hawl (one lunar year) unless there is a compelling benefit for the poor person, while distinguishing the zakat from the rest of the wealth.
