What is the obligatory amount of Zakat to be paid on 103 grams of gold, and is it permissible to give it to an orphanage?

The madhhab (view) of the majority of scholars is that jewelry prepared for permissible use is not subject to zakat. However, it is more cautious to pay its zakat to avoid disagreement. As for that prepared for purposes other than use, such as for accumulation, zakat is due on it. The nisab for gold is approximately 85 grams of pure gold. If the amount reaches the nisab, then one-quarter of one-tenth (2.5%) of its value is obligatory as zakat. It is permissible to pay it in money by valuing the gold and then giving one-quarter of one-tenth of its value. It is permissible to give zakat to a center that sponsors orphans if they are poor and needy. It is not permissible if they are wealthy, for orphanhood alone does not necessitate receiving zakat.
