What is the ruling on buying and selling perfumes that contain chemical substances which cause males to acquire feminine characteristics, affect fertility and sexual organs, and cause diseases? And is it obligatory to inquire about their ingredients from their suppliers?

If the harm of perfumes is not proven, then there is no objection to selling, buying, or using them, as the default rule is permissibility. However, if their harm is proven, then their use is prohibited, because Islamic law forbids everything that causes harm to religion or body, as Allah Almighty says: (And do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction). It is not permissible to sell harmful perfume, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: (There is no harm [permissible] nor reciprocating harm). If the buyer intends to imitate women, it is not permissible to sell it to him, because it is an aid to disobedience, as (the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, cursed men who imitate women and women who imitate men).

As for inquiring about the components of perfumes, if harm is certain, there is no need to ask. If there are doubts, then one should inquire to ascertain the truth, provided that the supplier is truthful in his answer.
