Is it permissible to give Zakat al-Mal to the wife's relatives in Syria, especially to cover the legal fees of their brother who is unjustly imprisoned, and is this considered among the rightful recipients of Zakat?

The recipients of zakat are specified in the Holy Quran as eight categories, among them the poor and the needy. You may pay your zakat to your wife's poor relatives, and it is permissible to pay it to secure the release of your wife's brother from prison if he is poor and cannot be released except by money. Scholars have also permitted the payment of zakat to ransom kidnapped individuals if they cannot be freed except by money.
