Does any form of polytheism (shirk) affect one who believes that religion does not answer questions such as: "Who created God?", and "What is the appearance of His hands, and what is His face?", and considers the response to these questions with "innovation (bid'ah)" or "seek forgiveness and stop" to be a deficiency in religion?

Islam is a religion of wisdom, contemplation, and reflection, but it tempers these virtues by placing them in their proper context. A sound mind prevents its owner from contemplating that which is of no benefit or that which he cannot comprehend, such as contemplating the absolute unseen, or the essence and modality of Allah's attributes.

Allah Almighty has introduced Himself to us and informed us of His names, attributes, and actions to the extent that our human intellect can comprehend. It is not permissible for us to move from what is accessible to what is inaccessible, as in the story of Musa (peace be upon him) when he yearned to see Allah but was unable to bear it.

Sheikh Ibn 'Uthaymeen explained that the modality of Allah's attributes is unknown to us, by virtue of both textual evidence (naql) and rational evidence ('aql). As for textual evidence, it is based on Allah's saying: ﴿And they encompass Him not in knowledge﴾ [Quran 20:110], and His saying: ﴿And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge﴾ [Quran 17:36], and because Allah has not informed us of their modality. As for rational evidence, modality cannot be comprehended except through direct observation, or observation of a similar counterpart, or through truthful information, all of which are absent concerning Allah.

In conclusion, it is a mistake and a deviation to boldly delve into the modality of Allah's attributes. And saying, "Woe to a religion that does not answer such a question," if it refers to Islam, then it is disbelief. And if one believes that Islam has answered this, then he has made a clear mistake.
