Is it permissible for a husband to divorce his wife if he discovers after marriage that she has severe visual impairment requiring costly operations, which she did not disclose before marriage, and what are his obligations towards her if he divorces her?

The majority of scholars hold that the defects warranting the annulment of marriage are those that prevent sexual intercourse, or are repulsive or contagious diseases. Therefore, a wife's weak eyesight is not a justification for annulling the marriage. It is advised not to rush to divorce a righteous wife, as Allah might place much good in her, as He Almighty says: "And live with them in kindness. For if you dislike them - perhaps you dislike a thing and Allah makes therein much good." And as the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Let no believing man despise a believing woman. If he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another." As for the expenses of a wife's medical treatment, jurists have differed on this matter.
