How can the two hadiths be reconciled: "And I seek refuge in You from the tribulation of poverty" and "By Allah, it is not poverty I fear for you"?
The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, sought refuge from the trial of poverty, meaning falling into the forbidden or into discontent. Whereas, he feared for his nation the trial of wealth and worldly competition, and that is because the harm of poverty is often worldly, while the harm of wealth is often religious.
