Am I obligated to obey my husband who swore by divorce that I would not go for Hajj, knowing that I am sixty years old and have not performed Hajj before, or can I disobey him, and what should I do in this situation?
Hajj is one of the pillars of Islam and is obligatory for those who are able to perform it. A husband does not have the right to prevent his wife from performing it. The wife must go for Hajj and not obey her husband in his prevention, because there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator. If he divorces her for that, Allah will make for her a way out and a relief, as confirmed by His saying, "And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out And will provide for him from where he does not expect."
