The Hajj is an immediate obligation for anyone who is able to undertake it. A husband does not have the right to prevent his wife from performing the obligatory Hajj. If he prevents her, she is permitted to go even without his permission, unless she fears that he will divorce her, in which case she would be excused. The custody of daughters is not an excuse to prevent a wife from performing Hajj as long as a guardian is present. It is recommended for the wife to seek her husband's permission; if he permits her, then that is excellent. If he does not permit her, she may leave without his permission. As for voluntary Hajj, he may prevent her from performing it. A woman is permitted to travel for the obligatory Hajj with a trustworthy company when there is no fear of temptation.
