Is the husband obligated to take his wife to Hajj, and is he responsible for her expenses therein if she has not performed the obligatory Hajj?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If the wife stipulated in the marriage contract that he should perform Hajj with her, he is obligated to fulfill this condition, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The conditions most worthy of fulfillment are those by which you legalize intimate relations," and due to Allah's Almighty saying: "O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts" (Al-Ma'idah/1), and "And fulfill [every] covenant. Indeed, every covenant will be questioned about" (Al-Isra/34).

However, if she did not stipulate it, he is not obliged to do so. Nevertheless, it is recommended that he performs Hajj with her to gain reward, increase affection between them, and earn praise and emulation.
