Is it possible for the word "al-Masih" (the Messiah) in the verse: "They have taken their scholars and monks as lords besides Allah, and the Messiah, son of Mary" to be in the accusative case due to praise, similar to His (the Most High) saying: "But those firm in knowledge among them and the believers believe in what has been revealed to you and what was revealed before you, and those who establish prayer and give zakat"?

Even Christians do not prefer Christ over God; the utmost extent of their polytheism is that he is the son of God. So how can it be said that Christ is mentioned for commendation? There is no disagreement among Muslims regarding the conjunction of Christ with the rabbis and monks, and most exegetes do not explicitly state this due to its clarity. However, some have explicitly mentioned it, such as Ibn Atiyyah and Abu Hayyan. The reason for separating Christ from the rabbis and monks is either that their statement concerning him is more egregious, or because taking Christ as a lord is specific to Christians.
