What is the ruling on running a red light when the road is clear of cars, such as at dawn? And is it true that traffic lights were put in place for regulation, not for glorification?

One must adhere to traffic laws due to the benefits they offer and the prevention of harm. Running a red light is impermissible due to the likelihood of causing damage, and due to Allah Almighty's saying: "O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you" (An-Nisa: 59). Traffic lights are equivalent to the command of the ruler to stop or proceed, and obedience to him is obligatory. The traffic director has emphasized that these lights are for stopping and holding, not just for regulating, even if other lanes are empty. A speeding driver might come to catch the light and an accident could occur. The statement that the light is for regulation and not for glorification is correct, but it is not an excuse for not abiding by it, for among regulations there are those which are obligatory.
