Should the questioner leave her fiancé, whom she loves for his religiosity and good character, knowing that he is a memorizer of 13 parts of the Qur’an, due to her father’s repeated rejection of him, and the father’s inability to bear the costs of the dowry and trousseau due to his debts and illness, and the questioner’s desire not to burden her father?

Allah Almighty has made religion and righteousness the foundation for choosing a spouse, as evidenced by His saying: "And marry the unmarried among you and the righteous among your male slaves and female slaves. If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty, and Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing." (An-Nur/32). The guardian is commanded to marry off the righteous woman in need, and one should choose a man who is righteous in his religion and capable of marriage. The young man not having memorized the entire Quran is not a defect. As for the preparations, an understanding can be reached with the suitor for him to bear the greater burden. If the young man does not cooperate, or if the father is unable to provide the minimum, then the woman must be patient and chaste until Allah facilitates for her.
