What is the difference between the expressions "asnad" (أسند) and "rawa" (روى) in books of biography and hagiography?

The word "أسند" (asnad) is used in hadith sciences to denote several meanings:

1. Narrated or received from: "أسند عن فلان" (asnad 'an fulan) means that he narrated or received knowledge from so-and-so. This phrase is frequently used by Ibn al-Jawzi. 2. Mentioned the isnad: It refers to the author or narrator mentioning the complete chain of narration (isnad) for the hadith. 3. Attributed the hadith to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: It is used when the narrator attributes the hadith as a marfu‘ (elevated) narration to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, rather than a mawquf (stopped) narration attributed to a Companion or Tabi‘i, or when the chain of narration is connected to its end.
