Is it permissible to cut down a Sidr tree after planting it if one no longer wishes for it to be in its place?

The prohibition against cutting Sidr trees has been mentioned in hadiths whose authenticity varies. Some scholars have deemed the hadiths prohibiting it as hasan (good). Abu Dawud and other scholars interpreted these hadiths as referring to the act of cutting Sidr trees needlessly when they provide shade for people in the desert, or cutting Sidr trees within the Haram (sacred precinct). Therefore, there is no harm in cutting Sidr trees planted on private property, unless they were planted to provide shade for people.
