It is sunnah for a visitor to the graveyard to supplicate with what was reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, including: "Peace be upon you, O inhabitants of these dwellings, from among the believers and Muslims. And verily, if Allah wills, we shall join you. We ask Allah for well-being for us and for you," and "Peace be upon you, O inhabitants of the graves. May Allah forgive us and you. You are our predecessors, and we are following in your footsteps." There is no harm in specifically visiting a grave and supplicating for forgiveness for the deceased, such as the Prophet's saying, peace and blessings be upon him: "O Allah, forgive him, have mercy on him, grant him well-being, pardon him, make his resting place honorable, widen his entrance, replace his family with a better family, and his spouse with a better spouse, admit him into Paradise, and protect him from the torment of the grave and the torment of the Fire."
