What is the ruling on an employee who is dedicated in his work to please officials and out of greed for promotions and salaries, and not for God, while he is devoted to God in his acts of worship and good deeds outside his job? Is his action during work permissible or is it shirk (associating partners with God), and will he be held accountable for the past years of his work?

Job work is not an act of worship; rather, it is for earning a salary, and the intention behind it is not for seeking nearness (to Allah). However, if an employee observes his Lord in his work and fulfills his trust to earn what is lawful, he will be rewarded for his sincerity. And if an employee fulfills his religious duties and avoids prohibitions, he is praiseworthy, and Allah multiplies rewards for whom He wills.
