Is it permissible for me to ask an orphaned girl, who is facing circumstances that necessitate her marriage, to wait for me for five years until I am able to marry her, knowing that I cannot guarantee the continuation of my feelings towards her or the ability to see her during that period, and is it permissible for me to communicate with her via phone or Messenger or see her in public places during the proposed waiting period?

If the woman has not committed to any suitor, you may propose to her. Inform her that you cannot marry for five years. She then has the choice: either to refuse or to accept.

If she accepts, you must fulfill your promise. There is no harm in either of you breaking off the engagement.

Know that a woman is considered a stranger before the marriage contract, so it is not permissible to be alone with her, nor to look at her, nor to speak with her except out of necessity.
