When an affliction befalls a servant, he must examine himself, repent to Allah, and strive in obedience to Him and drawing closer to Him. Righteousness towards parents is among the best acts of obedience, and disobeying them is among the greatest sins. Therefore, you must repent to Allah for what you have fallen short in regarding your mother's rights. Repentance erases what came before it. If you strive to be righteous towards your parents and then some shortcomings occur, then that is a cause for Allah's forgiveness, based on His saying: "Your Lord is most knowing of what is within yourselves. If you should be righteous, then indeed He is ever Forgiving to the often returning [to Him]."

The delay in marriage is one of Allah's decrees. Entrust the matter to Him, have a good opinion of Him, and supplicate frequently. It is permissible for a woman to offer herself in marriage to a righteous man, with certain regulations and manners.
