Will the repentance of our relative be accepted, who apostatized from the religion and disbelieved in God frequently, then lost his mind in an accident and became insane, but can still utter some words and remember some things, if he intends to repent or comprehends it somewhat when we remind him of it? And if his repentance is not accepted, what will be his fate on the Day of Judgment; will God re-test him, or will he abide eternally in the Fire?

First: Regarding one who is born insane and dies in that state: If both parents are Muslim, then the child will follow them into Paradise. If both parents are disbelievers, then the child will be tested on the Day of Judgment. If the child passes the test, he will enter Paradise, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) hadith about the four who will be tested.

Second: As for one who apostatizes from Islam and then becomes insane while still a disbeliever: Such a person is judged to be a disbeliever, and if they die in that state, they will be among the people of Hellfire and will not be tested. However, if a person was a believer and then became insane: They will be with the believers, and if they die in that state, they will be among the people of Paradise and will not be tested. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah emphasized that whoever disbelieves and then becomes insane, their ruling is that of a disbeliever. And whoever believes and then becomes insane, they will be rewarded for their faith.

Third: If the insane person regains consciousness and comprehends repentance and embraces Islam: Their repentance and Islam will nullify what preceded them. This moment should be utilized for them to repent to Allah.
