Is it permissible to recite aloud in all prayers when praying in congregation with a mother who has suffered a stroke and forgets some of the pillars of prayer and is not proficient in reciting Al-Fatiha and short surahs, and is it obligatory to repeat the prayers that were performed with her in this condition?

The prayer of the questioner and her sisters with their mother is valid, as it is permissible for a woman to lead other women in prayer. The mother's prayer is also valid because, according to the Maliki school, the imam bears the responsibility of reciting Al-Fatiha on behalf of the congregant. Similarly, prayer is not invalidated by omitting the Tashahhud (definition), Salat on the Prophet (peace be upon him), or other glorifications according to them. If the mother is unable to learn Al-Fatiha, she should pray behind an imam who will recite Al-Fatiha on her behalf. If the mother knows Al-Fatiha but does not master its tajwid (elocution), her prayer is valid even if she prays alone. It is permissible for the questioner to recite aloud with the intention of reciting Al-Fatiha and simultaneously teaching her mother, but she must be careful not to intend only teaching, as that would invalidate the prayer.

If the forgetfulness that afflicts the mother is normal, she must perform whatever components of the prayer she forgot if she remembers shortly thereafter, and perform the prostration of forgetfulness (sujud (definition) as-sahw). If she does not remember until after a long time, she must repeat the prayer. If forgetfulness becomes frequent to the point of being like obsessive whispers (waswas), it has specific rulings. The questioner should try to help her mother memorize Al-Fatiha, the Tashahhud, and Salat on the Prophet (peace be upon him). Reciting glorifications aloud in prayer is not required. It is permissible to raise one's voice when reciting the Tashahhud so that the mother can hear and repeat it, provided that the intention is to recite the Tashahhud, and there is no harm in also intending to teach her.
