It is the wife's right that her husband provide a suitable, independent dwelling, and she is not obliged to live with his family. The husband should combine honoring his parents with treating his wife kindly, and he should strive to mend the relationship between them. If the wife treats him poorly, the husband is permitted to divorce her, and this is not considered an injustice to her or to their children. However, divorce should only occur after all means of reconciliation have failed, especially when there are children. The spouses remaining together and cohabiting amicably is preferable to separation, and this may require patience, overlooking faults, and focusing on the good aspects of the other party's character.
