How valid is the understanding that the Prophetic narrations (hadiths) about the Mahdi and the descent of Jesus (peace be upon him) call for abandoning work for Islam and waiting until their appearance for the glory of Islam and Muslims to return?

The current state of the Muslim nation, described by some as deplorable, requires all Muslims to strive for its reform, not to rely on wishful thinking and escape responsibility under the pretext of awaiting the Mahdi. The sacred texts do not call for passivity and helplessness; rather, they command Muslims to work for the religion, invite to Allah, and contend with disbelievers and fight them until the religion is entirely for Allah. This is an obligation in every time and place. Working for Islam necessitates taking means, striving, and expending effort. Misunderstanding the hadiths concerning the Mahdi and Isa (peace be upon them) in a way that leads to dependence and abandonment of action contradicts the command of Allah and His Messenger to take means, strive on earth, and work, as is clear from verses such as: (Take your precautions), and (And prepare against them whatever you are able of power). Scholars have warned against this incorrect understanding, emphasizing that Muslims are not permitted to abandon working for Islam while awaiting the Mahdi, and that the victory of Islam can be achieved before then if Muslims take the means, citing the words of Allah Almighty: (If you support Allah, He will support you).
