How can one complain to Allah Almighty alone, in the manner of Jacob's complaint, peace be upon him, mentioned in Surat Yusuf: "I only complain of my suffering and my grief to Allah, and I know from Allah that which you do not know," and the complaint of the woman in Surat Al-Mujadilah: "Indeed, Allah has heard the words of she who argues with you concerning her husband and complains to Allah. And Allah hears your dialogue. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Seeing"?

Complaining is to Allah alone. It is a sign of complete servitude and reliance on Allah, and of one's independence from people. Ibn Taymiyyah said that complaining is to Allah Almighty, as Ya'qub (Jacob), peace be upon him, said: "I only complain of my suffering and my grief to Allah." Beautiful patience is that which contains no complaint. However, complaining to Allah does not contradict patience, as Ya'qub and Ayyub (Job), peace be upon them, did.

Complaining is of two types: complaining to Allah, which does not contradict patience, and complaining through one's state or words, which does contradict and invalidate patience. Complaining to Allah involves raising one's needs to Him alone and supplicating to Him, and this is a sign of complete servitude and reliance.
